Michigan has a small estate affidavit process that allows estates that do not include real property and that have a total value of $15,000 or less (adjusted for inflation) less liens and encumbrances.
With this process, the beneficiary or heir can bring an affidavit to the person holding the decedent’s property and have the property transferred to him or herself without having to open a probate case.
